Ryan Day #11 8/23/2011

9:00 am - Black Coffee

I love starbucks coffee,  it may be a serious addiction. No other coffee is as bold and most other coffees leave a lingering taste in my mouth that I do not like. But I hardly ever feel right paying $3 - $5 on a cup of coffee. However, today I decided to treat myself, because I lost another 1/2 pound! I am starting to believe this is a pretty fool proof plan as long as the directions are directly followed.

10:00 am - POM 1

I think I am going to die! I need to remember not to go for long walks after 9 am. Florida heat is ridiculous. For anyone who has not experienced a Florida summer, first off you are lucky, it is like walking around a sauna only with the suns gamma rays pointed directly on you. It is very intense, sometimes I forget just how intense it is, especially with all the rain we have had lately. Go hurricane Issac! I could literally see steam permeating from the grass as I was walking by it. I was actually contemplating just jumping in the pool, clothes on and all. But I was resiliant because I was eager to get home to my AC!!

1:00 pm - Meal 1

Blueberries and yogurt! The wait is pretty difficult. When it was noon I started to feel pretty bad hunger pangs, but I managed to get through it. The Starbucks coffee really helped.

3:00 pm - POM 2

Dancing up a 30 minute storm.

4:00 pm - Meal 2

I had a turkey dog, over mixed greens with some djon mustard ( I left my honey mustard in Fort Lauderdale, so I had to substitute) But I really like this dish. I'm not necissarily a hot dog type of person. I actually used to look down on them, but these turkey dogs are very good. I'm really not used to eating so much animal protein and a hot dog would normally upset my stomach but the ones I use do not.

6:00 pm - POM 3

So I didn't do so well today with this one. But my dance storm was pretty intense.

7:00 pm - Meal 3

I went to dinner with my son, I had 4 chicken wings and some spinach and artichoke dip, I used celery instead of chips to eat dip. So hopefully I didn't blow today. But I was asked to pick up my son today and it wasn't part of my plan, however I've got to just roll with it sometimes.

Summary

I'm pretty happy with my persistance, but I know if something is important I can make time for it. So, I'll have to make sure to get POM 3 in tomorrow, but so far lately I've been pretty happy with my effort. I can't be perfect everyday. Hey, I got a lot on my plate already and I can honestly say that today I tried my hardest to stick with everything.

Ryan Day #10 8/22/2012

8:00 am - POM 1

I started the day with a long walk down the beach. It was over 45 minutes, probably closer to an hour but I really did enjoy it. I have been to beaches all over the world; Antigua, Aruba, Hawaii (all over Hawaii), all over south Florida (Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Fort Myers, Key West, etc) and I believe that Jupiter Beach is the most beautiful beach I have ever been!

 11:00 pm - Meal 1

I had a 3 egg omlete with spinach, mushrooms, tomatoes, and asiago cheese and a half a cup blueberries. I coukdn't wait till noon, I was way too hungry and it was really really good! I also drank coffee.

Personal Training With Jackie: 30 Day Fast Start

2:30 pm - POM 2 - Stength Training

I did a 25 minute work out video that focuses on strength training. I was going to go to a Bikram Yoga class this morning but I didn't get up in time. I used Jackie Warner's 30 Day Fast Start. I just did the portion on the arms and my arms feel like jello. She uses a pyramid format and its straight weights, good for men and women.

3:30 pm - Meal 2

I made baked pesto chicken with spinach, mushrooms, sundried tomatoes, and cover with cheese.

4:00 pm - Tea Time

I feel so proper when I have my 4:00pm tea time. I even raise my pinky while I'm drinking it... hehehe

6:00 pm - POM 3

I did laps for 30 minutes. I am a Florida girl through and though and I love to swim. It's like second nature to me. I love it because even when you are sweating you hardly feel it, the only way I know I'm sweating is I can feel my heart rate going up. I highly recommend swimming to anyone, especially if you have knee or back problems.

7:00 pm - Meal 3

I had a protein shake, I wasn't too hungry but I wanted to be sure to get some protein in as a last meal.
I also had a skinny cow snack bar.

Summary

So, I know I'm not supposed to weigh myself everyday. I think thats like part of the diet bible, any nutritionist or trainer will tell you not to weigh yourself everyday. Well, I am guilty. I weigh myself everyday, at the same time. Today I weighed myself and I lost 2 lbs, which just gave me more motivation to do better. I actually put a bikini on and I'm starting to see a difference. I feel so much lighter too. I also really like the mentality behind this program. I will post pics on Sunday and stats.

Ryan Day #9 8/21/2012

4:00 am - POM 1

Ok, I had every intention of doing POM 1, before I went to work. I had to carpool with my Dad and he doesn't get up as early as me. But I kept hitting the alarm and then I realized I had 15 minutes to get ready!

It's about time I start taking my own advice!

7:00 am - Coffee time!

I'm thinking if I did this at 4am I may have been able to get my POM 1 completed. But I do love to sleep, it's definately one of my top 3 things to do. Plus, one of the things outlined in this program is just how imprortant sleep is. On top of that, I did manage to put an outfit together I would not have normally worn before because of my belly, which is finally starting to disappear!! I don't care what the scale says I definately see a difference.

12:00 pm - Meal 1

strawberries and yogurt! Yummy. I was so hungry.

2:00 pm - POM 2

Took a 20 minute break from work to walk around the building. It was actually very nice to unplug for a little bit. It's nice to get to be alone with my thoughts at least once during the day. I like to reflect on positive things in my life.

3:00 pm - Meal 2

photo.JPGI had a turkey hot dog with honey mustard on a bed of mixed greens. It was really delicious. Food is really good when your hungry! I have been really good at not snacking between meals. It's like I have to train myself to pay better attention. But, when I'm ready to eat my second meal I'm really hungry and I think it makes me enjoy it a little more. I know this probably doesn't look very appetizing, but it's actually very tasty!

3:30 pm - Tea Time!

green tea egcgGreen tea is very good for you. Check out this website to read about the full benefits of Green tea. I know living in south Florida in August is nearly unbearable with the heat, so I brew mine and pour it over cold water and ice. It is very refreshing! Right now I am using Biglow Green Tea (basically because it was cheap). I also have some Matcha Green Tea, which helps promote weight loss even more. I'll probably alternate between the two because the Matcha is expensive ( I do use a very good quality loose leaf Matcha).

7:30 pm - POM 3

I wanted to take a walk but there was a severe thunder storm. So I did a dance video for 30 min and it was a lot of fun!

8:30 pm - Meal 3

I had a protein shake, I didn't want to eat too late but I got home late and I had to wait a half hour after I finished the dance video. I had an atkins protein shake it wasn't great but it wasn't too bad and it hit the spot. And I had a skinny cow candy bar... yum yum yum!!!!

Summary

I think I did really well today and I am starting to feel like my stomach is going down. I 'm not craving the cabrs like I had thought I would. If I do have a carb craving I just have a small amount, as long as I keep it under 60. I feel like I'm back on track and I really do like this way of eating. I have tried the Atkins diet, which is somewhat similar and I did NOT like it. But this is different and I'm eating food I really like!

Ryan Day #8 8/20/2012

4:00 am - POM 1

Today is my son's first day at Pre-K! I also have to go into work today. So I got up early to finish some laundry, get lunches packed and walked around for 30 minute (I know I HAVE to do the full 45). Tomorrow will be better because I won't have to drop my son at school and I can get to work early enough to walk around the office building.

9:00 am - Meal 1

I had a McDonalds Breakfast Burrito with black coffee
calories - 300,  fat - 16, carbs - 26, protein - 12
So here is me not eating Clean (it happens sometimes) I was in a rush because my son took too long to get ready. I am almost always rushing on monday. (I really HATE monday because of this)

12:00 pm - POM 2

Not so much. I didn't take a lunch break today as I had planned. I got caught up in work and forgot to do my POM 2.

2:00 pm -Meal 2

I had a small chicken salad with spinach. Very good and hardly any carbs.

6:00 pm - POM 3

I walked around my office for 30 minutes (to try and make up for POM 2 a little).

7:30 pm - Meal 3

I had chicken breast with a mixed green salad (no dressing), a small helping of spaghetti squash and veggies and a cheese stick.

Summary

I feel bad, I keep trying so hard to get the time in the morning for the POM. But I feel the most important thing is to follow the diet guidlines, then sleep, then POMs and last everything else.  I believe I am on track with the diet guidelines (excuse my McDonalds this morning). You'd think I woke up early enough to get my sh*t together, but I really HATE waking my son up. I think thats where I got tripped up today. I also made sure that I ate only when I am supposed to  (No snacks) and I still kept my carbs under 60.

Ryan Day #7 8/19/2012

I thought this was appropriate for this week!

7:00 am - POM 1

I went for a brief walk. I did not get the full 45 minutes in, I know this is something I really have to work on.

10:00 am -Meal 1

I met a friend for breakfast (3 hours since POM 1). I just got 2 eggs with rye toast.

1:00 pm -POM 2

I was at the science museum, we walked around for about an hour.

2:30 pm - Meal 2

I had a half of a subway ham sandwich on whole wheat bread. I was planning on waiting until I got home but I was too hungry and I waited 4:30 hours before I ate. I don't think this was the best choice for lunch ( I try to avoid bread and pasta cause the make me bloated), but I was really hungry.

5:00 pm - POM 3

I went to Target and tried (key word TRIED) to find school supplies for my son. (I know you probably think I'm completely unorganized and last minute and sometimes I am, but in this case I just got the list). I also thought his father took care of this, so in this paticular case I'm not unorganized as much as lacking communication with my son's father. Of course, I found NOTHING. But I did get a good 15 minute walk around the store!

6:00 - Meal 3

I ate a mini pizza with spinach and muchrooms. The pizza was very small and full of veggies.

Summary

I can't say today was the best day, but I was very busy running around all day and I think I did make the best of it. I will have to be more careful with my carbs and POMs.
This is the end of my first week and I'm sorry to say I have not lost any weight, but I have not gained any either and I do feel healthier. I am going to make the POMs a much bigger priority next week and try to stick with the diet much more diligently with NO snacking! I'm not going to be too hard on myself about today, because there is always tomorrow. I think I did ok this week. I will definately try harder next week. This week was focusing on the food, I'm going to try and focus on the POMs next week. and on day 10 I'm doing a yoga or strength training class.

Ryan Day #6 8/18/2012

This is NOT a realistic interpretation.

7:00 am - Cold Bath

I'm sorry to say I skipped this part. I am going to focus more on getting the POM's completed and the start adding the Cold Bath and balloons. It's hard enought for me to get my lazy butt out of bed, but to throw in that I have to take an ice cold bath, Oh Joy!

Drinking my coffee in the morning!

10:00am - POM 1

I walked with my son, while we were waiting for his friends. We are going fishing on a friends boat today, so it's going to be difficult to get hit every mark on this program.

2:00 pm - Meal 1

I had yogurt, strawberries and string cheese.
One of the reasons I love the summer is the cheap and fresh berries. I eat berries everyday, I love them all!

3:00 pm - POM 2

I was walking around the boat and fishing.

4:00 pm - Meal 2

I had 1/4 of my son's Peanut butter and jelly and some string cheese.

6:00 pm - POM 3

I spent about a half hour cleaning up; laundry, vacuuming, dusting, sweeping, etc ...

7:00 pm - Meal 3

I had some leftover spahgetti squash and spinach

Summary

Today was not very easy. I was exhausted from the boat but I still needed to do some period of movement. I also reread the end chapter of " 6 Weeks to OMG" and I realized just how important the POM's are. I think that last chaper sums the whole diet plan the best. Sometimes whilw I was reading the book, I had a hard time because I don't really speak the way it was written. I believe it is for a much younger audience (and I'm not THAT old, I'm 29).

Ryan Day #5 8/17/2012

8:00 am - Cold Bath

I did the 15 minute bath and I was really proud of myself

8:30 am - POM 1

I had a hard time getting up. First thing was a nice cup of black coffee and then some walking around.

Meal 1

I had blueberries, yogurt, hard boiled egg, string cheese and a small apple.
Blueberries in dew

POM 2

I put my dance video (10 minute sessions) for 30 minutes. It's not easy dancing around a 4 year old but I do it anyway! I use 10 Minute Solution: Dance Mix with Jennifer Galardi and its very basic. I would recommend it to anyone who isn't the most coordinated and likes to get up and move.

Meal 2

I had chicken salad with spinach.

7:00 pm - POM 3

I went to visit friends and was planning on taking a walk with them around their beautiful neighborhood, but it ended up raining. So I did not do so well with this one. But I was walking around the grocery store for about 15 minutes, so I will count that!

Florida Lightning

8:30 pm - Meal 3

I made some of my friends this spaghetti squash that I can't stop talking about and I believe it was a hit! I will post my version of the recipe on the recipe portion with a picture.

Summary

I have been trying to keep my meal time to about 30 minutes per meal, with ABSOLUTELY no snacking in between. I did a real good job today and I am proud of myself. Now onto the weekend. I have a busy weekend so I'm not sure how well I am going to do. But I will do my best!

Ryan Day #4 8/16/2012

7:30 am - cold bath

All I can say is, I did it!

8:00 am - POM 1

I took a long walk (1 hour) with my son to a local diner for iced coffee and OJ. It was probably one of the nicest walks I've been on. He's a real pleasure to talk with while I'm walking and he can keep up. But after the walk, I felt like I was going to pass out, Florida heat in August is nearly unbearable.

12:00 pm - Meal 1

3oz Greek Yogurt, blueberries  & strawberries, hard boiled egg, low fat string cheese and an apple

2:00 pm - POM 2

I got up and cleaned and moved around my apartment for 30 minutes.

3:00 pm - Meal 2

I made the rest of the spaghetti squash and shrimp... so yummy!

6:00 pm - POM 3

I got up and danced for 15 minutes.
File:Dancing baby.gif

7:00 pm - Meal 3

I had a hot dog with honey mustard and spinach

Summary

I have a hard time not snacking, I have to be honest I take an extremely long time to finish what I'm eating and I do snack sometimes on a piece of cheese in between meals. I do believe this is inhibitting me from loosing the weight that I would like.

Meaghan Day 6 8/17/12

I had a terrible day and things sorta went haywire. I did my 45 minute walk and black coffee then two pieces of Ezekiel bread with peanut butter at noon but then the SH*&T hit the fan and my world got turned up-side-down!

I had more Ezekiel bread for my second meal and also my third meal. I was extremely upset all day so had no appetite. This probably accounts for my weight loss but not a healthy way to get there!

UGH is all I can say!

Pretty much sums it up

Meaghan Day 5 8/16/12

8:30 am: Wake Up & Coffee

Woke up and decided to skip the cold bath.... I know i've
been terrible at this. I have to start with the shower and I still can't get myself to do it. Oh well tomorrow's another day.....right?

Brewed my black cup of coffee in my to-go cup

Coffee To-Go for POM 1

8:45 am: POM1

Started my morning out with a nice walk. It was about 90 and 80% humidity so a bit tough but Mater and I still got threw it. We took our usual route with no incident and did a full 45 minutes.

Walk around the Lake

12:20 pm: Meal #1

This was one of my biggest fears, going out to eat and sticking to the program. With family in town during my first week I was extra stressed out as I knew going out to eat would be hard to avoid.  This was my second time eating out but it went surprisingly well. I love that 6 weeks to OMG does not have recipes or prepared food. It teaches you how to eat so I felt prepared when looking at the menu. I went with a 3 egg white omelet with cheddar cheese, spinach, tomato, onion and mushrooms. I only ate about half but because it was so huge:

3 Egg White Omelet from Howleys

3:30 pm: POM2

Worked around the house cleaning up for about 15 minutes - not super exciting but the job needs to get done.

4:00 pm: Meal #2

Still have chicken from Wholefoods so I grilled it on the George Foreman grill and seasoned lightly with a Parmesan seasoning I picked up from Carmines.

Chicken and Cottage Cheese

6-8 Worked a Wine Tasting

I know this isn't part of my program but I wanted to point out that I faced my biggest temptation and made it. Every other Thursday I volunteer and pour wine at The Wine Cellar! So this week was my week and I poured amazing wine for two hours without one sip! Yeah me!!

8:20 pm Meal 3

No POM3 but I would consider being on my feet pouring wine to fit into the POM3.  For dinner I just was not hunger so I had two pieces of Ezekiel bread with 2 tablespoons of peanut butter. Dessert was my favorite Greek pop!

Thursday, August 16, 2012

Ryan Day #3 8/15/2012

7:30 am -cold bath

I have to say, I was very proud of myself today. I actually stayed in the bath for the full 15 minutes. Still the hardest part for me of this program.

8:00 am - POM 1

I did not get to do the full 45 minutes, because I had to run some errands before I started work. I did the best I could in the time I could. I will have to wake up earlier tomorrow.

12:00 pm - Meal 1

I had some spaghetti squash and it was going bad so I had to make it. I wanted to use it later this week. And I probably will use this recipe again. It was Awesome! The Anaheim Shrimp Scampi by the Stella family. I strongly recommend it and will post the recipe later this week

2:00 pm - POM 2

went for 30 min walk.

3:00 pm - Meal 2

I baked 1 oz of chicken with djon mustard (low carb) and green beans with tumeric. I love food that tastes good and is good for you. It makes me feel so happy when I eat it and this definately tasted very good! I was so hungry I didn't take a picture, next time I make it I will post a picture.

7:00 pm - POM 3

took a 15 min walk before I met a friend for dinner.

8:00 pm - Meal 3

I went to Rocco's Taco's and had a small salad and a shrimp taco.

Summary

I think the most difficult part of this program, for me, is the morning, cold bath and POM 1.

Wednesday, August 15, 2012

Meaghan Day 4 8/15/12

Woke up at 9 am - yes I've been totally oversleeping this week! Also skipped the cold bath again but tomorrow I will try the 3 minute cold shower.

9:15 Black Cup of Joe

9:15-9:45 POM1

Was suppose to do 45 minutes was more like 30 minutes. It was HOT AS HELL and I couldn't take it. I have to get up earlier tomorrow to start the morning walk.

12:30 Meal #1

Had a few meetings I had to travel to and I had my cousin with me as well. Decided to bring him to one of my favorite Italian groceries, Carmines I ended up getting a nice salad with a little fetta, cucumbers, tomato's, and topped it with some extra virgin olive oil and balsamic vinagrette

3:00 POM2

Swam in the ocean for my POM2. It was pretty awesome not gonna lie

3:30 Meal #2

Small cottage cheese with 10 raspberries. I wasn't very hungry so it really hit the spot

7:00 POM3

Cleaning up, walking up and down stairs for about 15 minutes

7:30 Meal #3

Yummy steak from Carmines with white asparagus and my Greek Yogurt pop for dessert!

I promise to take more pictures and give more details tomorrow. I should add I had plenty of green tea and water - key!

Ryan Day #2 8/14/2012

5:30 am - Cold Bath

I'm still not getting used to this cold bath thing. I associate baths with relaxing, but this one is anything but serene and relaxing. I'm making the best attempts possible. It definately wakes you up in the morning. The cold water makes my heart race and gives me some slight anxiety. However, that's not going to stop me from trying. I had to drive into work today (1 hour and 30 min), so I had to start my day early.

7:45 am - POM 1

I took a brisk walk around my office building for 45 minutes, going up and down the stairs and mostly just around the building.

12:00 pm - Meal 1

I had the same thing as yesterday. I really like Greek Yogurt (I usually eat Fage, but Oikos was on sale and its pretty good) and fruit. I also love apples with cinnamon and the egg gives me the protein I need to make it till lunch. I also had a piece of low fat string cheese.
calories- 261,  carbs -29, fat- 8, protein- 22

3:00 pm - POM 2

Unfortunately, I did not get to complete this one today. I was very busy at work and I didn't get a chance to take a break, as I had planned.

3:30 pm - Meal 2

I missed this one too. I ended up eating my meal 2 closer to 5 ( chicken salad and lettuce cup). I wasn't very hungry though. I have been drinking black coffee and water throughout the day.
calories- 176 , carbs- 10 , fat- 7, protein- 23

7:00 pm - POM 3

I took a 30 minute walk. then waited 30 minutes to eat.

8:00 pm - Meal 3

I has 3 oz baked salmon with dill and spinach salad with goat cheese.
I also had a greek pop (they are AWESOME!)
calories-268 , carbs -18, fat-13, protein-47

Summary

calories-705 , carbs -57, fat-42, protein-92
I wasn't able to follow the program completely today, but I did the best I could and life gets in the
way sometimes. But my pants are finally starting to get a little baggy, which makes me super happy. I went to bed later than I normally do, because I had to wait 3 hours to sleep.

Meaghan Day #3 8/14/12

9:00 Black Coffee:

Had a late start to the day. Family in town and was up too late!

9:00-9:30: POM1

Not the 45 minutes I am suppose to do but had family in town and had to get it done quickly. I should have gotten up earlier in the day to get my full 45 minutes

12:00: Meal #1

1 slice of Ezekiel bread toasted:  80 calories 15g carbs
Topped with peanut butter: 190 calories 3g carbs
6 oz Fage yogurt:100 calories 7g carbs
5 raspberries: 5 calories 1.1g carbs

3:30 Meal #2

I did not do a POM2 today. I was at the beach and exerted a ton of energy but that was about an hour before I ate - definitely should have done the 15 minute hunt and then 15 minute wait.

Ate Green Chile & Cheddar Cheese Stuffed Chicken Breast from target (320 calories and 5 carbs)
Quinoa: .25 cup 43 calories and 7.5 carbs
Cucumber: 8 calories and 1.9 carbs

6:00 Meal #3

As I've already stated my cousin is in town so things are a bit different. We went out to dinner at Bonefish Grill so I was a bit nervous about what I was going to eat/order. I really wanted a glass of wine or a nice cold beer but instead I got San Pellegrino to hit the spot. Then I hemmed and hawed over the menu and finally came up with a good option: Ahi Tuna with grilled veggies! Hit the spot and was super healthy and low carb. Then I came home and had my Greek Pop! Overall decent day

Meaghan Day #2 8/13/12

So today I actually used a thermometer to test the temperature of my water. I was shocked to see what I thought was cold enough was more like 85 degrees - UGH - after that realization I skipped the cold bath.

8:30 Black Coffee Brewed:

The easiest part of this program for me. I cup black coffee in a to-go cup for my walk

8:45 45 Minute Brisk Walk:

Took our dog Mator along and he loved it. Walked 45 minutes briskly in the brutal South Florida sun

12:30 Breakfast:

0% Fage Greek Yogurt, Gala apple and Venti Green Tea

3:00 POM2:

Brisk 15 minute walk with Mator the dog. Insanely hot here so really drained my energy!

3:30 Meal #2

Had a piece of Wahoo with 1/4 cup Quinoa and broccoli.

5:30 Zumba

I was soar from yesterdays class so only did about 20-30 minutes of Zumba.

7:30 POM3:

Did a quick cleaning for 15 minutes

8:30 Meal #3:

I was NOT hungry today so when dinner came I had to force myself to eat. I ended up having Ezekiel Organic bread (was a little iffy about trying this but it was good!) topped with natural creamy peanut butter and a whole cucumber.  Of course I had my Yasso Greek Yogurt pop!

Monday, August 13, 2012

Ryan Day #1 8/13/2012

7:45 am - cold bath

I took a cold bath this morning and it was not easy. I tried to submerge my whole self for 10 - 15 minutes, but I could only get half way submerged. I live in South Florida for a reason and I really dislike the cold, so this was very difficult for me. The water was approximately 68 degrees.

My walk this morning

8:15 am - 45 minute walk (POM 1)

I took a nice walk to the beach ( I live 5 minutes). It wasn't too hot but by 8:50 am, I was dripping with sweat. After the walk I had a large glass of water and coffee.

12:00 pm - First Meal

Breakfast
I had 3oz of oikos Greek yogurt (0% fat) and 1/2 cup of blue-berries, a small gala apple with cinnamon and one hard boiled egg

I also took 1/2 a multi-vitamin, fish oil, chlorella, and vitamin C

Lunch

3:00 pm - Second Meal

chicken salad (canned chicken with avocado, celery, cilantro, lime, red onion, ceyenne pepper), wrapped in an iceberg lettuce leaf.

8:00 pm - Balloon

So, I said I would do all of Venice Fulton's crazy ideas and I blew up a balloon 10x , standing in front of a mirror.

Summary

First, I'd like to say I decided to make today my first day because, I didn't plan well enough yesterday. However, after reading Meaghan's post, she did it again and inspired me to make better choices, Thanks!

I am honestly not that hungry. I know I should probably eat more, but I'm pretty filled up by the protein and it lasts throughout the day. I feel really good and hopefully I will be able to maintain this type of lifestyle for the next six weeks (and longer if possible). I have to say the hardest part of this was the cold bath this morning.
