Meet Meaghan

I am a 34 year old single woman with no kids and I work from home. I'm approximately five feet one inch and currently weigh 154.2 pounds.  Those are the simple tid-bits about me but there is always so much more, isn't there!?!

At 28 I was diagnosed with 3b cervical cancer and underwent chemo therapy, internal and external radiation and a radical nephrectomy. I blogged about my journey and you can read more at www.cancerlost.blogspot.com The aftermath of my treatments left me in menopause at age 28 and with a very confused body from the chemo therapy. By the end of my treatments I was down to a little under 100 pounds.  The picture below is me about 3 months after I finished treatments
Eventually I got back up to 125 pounds but about two years post cancer I started packing on the pounds! With menopause and a body afraid of starvation (extremely low metabolism post chemo) the pounds came on quickly but were not so easy to lose.

A little over a year ago I was at my heaviest weighing in at 175 pounds.  Putting on so much weight in such a short period of time was extremely frustrating, depressing and overwhelming!  I tried a variety of things but nothing seemed to work. I blamed all this on my cancer and pretty much gave up.

July 2011 I decided enough was enough and I hired a personal trainer. She was fantastic and after 2 months I had lost 20 pounds.  I was on a strict diet and worked out 2 hours a day 7 days a week.  This was great, so long as I was able to live a hugely restricted life style. Even with the extreme diet and working out 2x a day for an hour I seemed to plateau at 154.  Eventually I got frustrated and gave up entirely!

I've been fortunate enough to have only put back on 10 pounds. Back to 164 I realized it wouldn't be long before I was back to my original weight of 175! I had decided something needed to be done but wasn't sure exactly what I was going to do. For a few days I watched my diet and immediately lost 2 pounds.  Then my sister handed me 6 Weeks to OMG. I read the book in one day and decided I was going to give it a try!

A week and a half ago I started testing out this new program (the author emphasizes it's not a diet).  I tried the cold baths a few times, tried to do some of the exercise and was 100% strict with the three meals a day and no more than 60 grams of carbs.  In only 10 days I had lost 6 pounds! That's when I shared the book with my good friend Ryan who was also struggling to lose weight.  Ryan tried it out and also had success.

I received a phone call from my good friend last night, Saturday August 11th. She had been looking for a good blog authored by someone trying the diet out themselves.  While she found a few so-so blogs there wasn't anything that really told the story, gave advice and detailed whether or not this could really work.  She proposed we start this blog and document our 6 Weeks to OMG journey.

As much as it pains me to publish these photos of myself I'm doing it because I want to be transparent/real. This is what I look like now and my hope is that after 6 weeks I look 20 pounds lighter. My goal weight is 125 pounds, that means I need to lose a total of 29.2 pounds - WISH ME LUCK!
